UV disinfection as a solution to eradicate the Coronavirus germs

With the whole world under pressure to meet strict prevention measures for the coronavirus, which has killed more than thousands of people around the world, some companies, hospitals, institutions should turn to the new technology to keep everything clean.

UV (Ultraviolet) disinfection technology
UV disinfection is a fast-growing and invaluable technology for preventing the spread of hospital-acquired infections or HAIs. Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection is the use of ultraviolet light to kill infectious bacteria, viruses, and fungi. While modern techniques have not always been in use, the effect of UV light on infectious microbes has been known and studied for more than 100 years.

How does UV disinfection work?
As you can see from the chart below, UV (Ultraviolet) is a form of light that is invisible to the human eye. UV occupies the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum; this form of light stands between X-rays and visible light. UV wavelengths fall between 10nm-400nm, but only a specific range of its wavelengths, those between 200 and 300nm, are categorized as germicidal. Germicidal means that they are capable of inactivating microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoa.

When germicidal wavelengths of UV light are is applied over bacteria, viruses and protozoa, they became incapable of reproducing and infecting. Facts show that Germicidal wavelengths of UV light have demonstrated efficacy against bacteria, viruses and parasitic diseases.
UV light inactivates microorganisms as a result of damage to nucleic acids. The high energy of short wavelength UV is absorbed by cellular RNA and DNA. Consequently, new bonds are created between adjacent nucleotides, creating double bonds or dimers. The formation of numerous dimmers in the DNA of bacteria and viruses makes them unable to infect and replicate.

Can UV disinfection prevent the distribution of Coronavirus?
“The UV disinfection technology will kill the coronavirus, as it has proven efficacy against MERS CoV and MHV-A59, showing over 6 log reductions in viral particles within 30 minutes”.

Where should be used the UV disinfection technology?
